We're all quick to condemn our own growing use of social media. But I have to say that it has helped me connect with the world' it has given me the opportunity to feel compassion for people I may never have known, or known well, otherwise. Where else could someone cry out from the depths of their despair to tell everyone who might scroll past' that they JUST found out their son was killed in a car accident?
It seems like a strange thing to announce on social media, among the 'here's what I had for dinner' and 'I hate politicians' posts. Out of the wilderness, someone cries out. And people respond. Some might say it's easy to post a comment of condolence' but what good does that do? Well, in this isolated world, it gives us courage and hope' to know that we're not alone' we're not shouting into a barrel' that someone, in fact MANY people, hear us and cry for us and pray for us. We are reminded of our humanity...amid the vapid comments and empty memes, amid the arguments and jokes...a few words can cause everyone to just' stop' scrolling... and bow our heads.
