It's a well-known truth that the best way to learn is to teach. Perhaps that's why Jesus told his disciples to make disciples! The very act of teaching someone else about the love of the Father teaches us more about him.
That's why I'm thankful for this ministry. When I first embarked on it, I felt intimidated by the idea of conveying anything of value to others. I have a lot of friends who've been to seminary, and many more who've studied the Bible longer than I have. What could I possibly teach them? How could I minister to them?
But that is what "the body" is for—to encourage one another. No man is above another. We are all part of the body, with Christ as our head. We have different gifts, and all can be used for the edification of the body.
He has given me the desires of my heart so that pursuing those desires will bring me closer to him! And it is in the process of teaching/inspiring/encouraging others that we are taught/inspired/encouraged by God.
What a perfect picture of discipleship—the very thing we are all called to do.
Paul tells the Ephesian church that he constantly prays "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened.— (Eph 1:17)
Praying for one another, asking for the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, nourishes the church to do what we are called to do—disciple others, teaching them everything Jesus has taught us....and in doing so, he teaches us more!
