I heard a great Maundy Thursday message today from my friend Deacon Rosemary. It was so full of nuggets, it's hard to know where to start. So maybe I'll just list a few things: When we were babies, having someone wash our feet was a great joy, with lots of smiles and giggles. When we are older and incapacitated, it is something we allow because we need it, but there's not much giggling going on. It's hard for us to receive, especially from someone we hold in esteem. But we must let go of the fear, shame, embarrassment in order to receive Christ's gift fully. Just be that baby again... enjoy the gifts Jesus gives you.
Jesus told his disciples that they were already clean! Let that soak in a minute. You are clean! He said that only the feet needed washing... because they become dirty from the dust of the earth and the sweat of our work.
When Jesus washes OUR feet, we are, in a sense, activated to go out and put our faith to work... to "walk the talk."
Have a blessed Holy Week, and remember... You ARE Clean!
