This morning as I was writing notes to some of my patrons, it dawned on me what a blessing it is for me to let someone know how special they are to me. Using my handwriting, which is as unique as my fingerprints, I am able to convey something that's in my heart, something that the Holy Spirit inspired me to write.
In this age of e-mail and Facebook, a handwritten note can be a powerful thing. Not only can it show someone that you thought enough of them to take the time to write something just for them—but it is such a blessing to actually do it! When I write a card or note to someone, the Holy Spirit imprints that person on my heart, and my words of encouragement or thanksgiving for them is a type of prayer.
It's God speaking to me about them, and me conveying the message.
And isn't that what we're called to do by proclaiming the Gospel? The Gospel is the good news that God loves us and wants us to reconcile with him. He wants to shower us with love. He wants to pour living water into scarred and worn out vessels to recreate them from the inside out.
The Gospel is not just a mass, automatically generated e-mail to all of God's people. It's a very personal "I love you" from God.
Our Heavenly Father writes individual love letters to each of us because he has a special plan for each of us that is way too big to put into all the pages that could ever be written! And the biggest treasure and pleasure is to dig in, page by page, find out what that plan is, and walk it out.
The ink in the pen is His very blood, shed for us so that our story becomes His story for us— perfect and eternal.
