Hospital Sitting

I'm here in my mom's hospital room after surgery on her shoulder. She had a rough time with pain in recovery, and has been sleeping for a few hours. I'm staying with her because when she wakes up, she sometimes gets disoriented and doesn't know where she is, or she's in pain and forgets that her shoulder has stitches in it. I want to be able to know what's going on with her every minute.

There are nurses and nurse assistants here, of course... but they have lots of other patients and can't be everywhere at once. So, even though she sleeps 4.5 out of every 5 hours, she needs attending to.

She's not aware of everything going on around her as she slips in and out of consciousness. But behind the scenes there are people recording her blood pressure and oxygen level, double checking her medication orders, monitoring her pain, making decisions about how to best care for her as she heals... all of this in addition to helping her to the bathroom and making sure that when she slides down in the bed, she's helped back up.

This hospital experience isn't unlike our experience here on earth. There are so many things going on in the spirit realm... aiding us as we walk unconsciously through life. God is at our right and left, before us and behind us. He is our shade by day and our light at night. He guards us sleeping. His angels tend to us. Most of the time, we are unaware... that God is with us.
