Live – Laugh – Love = Liturgy

As a “liturgical person,” one who grew up crossing herself and kneeling, listening and responding, receiving and thanking…. I consider church liturgy to be a beautiful expression of worship.

I also consider breathing in and breathing out to be a beautiful expression of worship, because HE is here in every moment, and I cannot help but worship Him.

I love the fact that “liturgy” means “the work of the people.”

Christians have a love/hate relationship with the word “work.” We realize that we cannot gain our salvation by working, and we are quick to point out if someone shows a smidgen of trying to do so. “Gasp! That’s works!!!” Works = bad!

But then there is that scripture verse that tells us to work out our faith with fear and trembling… to show our faith even though we are afraid… to do the “greater works” that Jesus said we would do. (Note the word is "would," not "should." We really shouldn't "should" ourselves!)

This should not be confused with:

  • teaching Sunday school

  • singing in the choir

  • volunteering on the church council

  • showing up every time the church doors are open

  • You know… that stuff that completely burns us out on “church.”

The “work” of the people is our recognition and celebration that we are a part of God, and that even THROUGH US, he lives and moves and has HIS being. It’s an astonishing concept.

Our lives = liturgy.
