Scent from Heaven

"Give us this day our daily bread" is a phrase we take for granted. We might be reminded of the manna in the desert... how the Lord always provides for our basic needs.

But there's more to the story.

The word DAILY in that prayer is not found elsewhere in scripture, and has been translated as closely as possible, but is not quite on the mark. In historical research, the word was found in ancient Egypt in an everyday note... basically a grocery list. It was the word that differentiated "day-old" bread from FRESH bread.

What the Lord gives us is more than sustenance. It is more than our basic necessities. It's the kind of bread you pay extra for because it's warm from the oven... the kind that fills your entire home with a scent from heaven.... because of the One sent from heaven. ... born in a horse stall in a town called Bethlehem, which, incidentally, means "House of Bread."
