At a recent conference workshop, we were discussing what we can do as Christians to make a difference in our degrading society. We agreed that we must do what Jesus did... reach out to individuals and love them into the kingdom.
Then something interesting happened. Before I knew it, people were getting offended, lashing out at each other, discussing how "bad" and "wrong" other groups of people are, and how we have to fight for our rights as Christians in a society that seems to be discriminating against us.
How quickly we can slip from seeing people as individuals to seeing them as political, religious, and economic groups. It's impossible to love a group, easy to make an enemy of one.
When our convictions about our faith supersede our capacity for love, we have failed at the great commission. Thankfully, our God offers grace for every failure.
