Watch Out for Those Glass Doors!

There have been times when I thought I knew someone's heart and then found out I was wrong.

It felt like running into a glass door and shattering it...

...and then falling through a hidden door into an abyss.

Whoa. That sounds kinda dramatic, doesn't it? But if you've ever been hurt by a friend or disappointed to find out that they're not what they seemed, or they don't feel about you the way you thought they did, I think you can probably relate.

I don't know about you, but I've become very careful to watch out for glass doors! Often, this results in feeling like I'm on the outside looking in to other people's lives, and I'm missing out on real relationships.

While we might tend to just chalk this behavior up to normal human nature, the fact is, it's also a self-protective strategy that can lead to sin. When I have prayed, "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts" (ps 139), the Lord has encouraged me to explore this issue... to find that broken place that only He can heal.

Real healing requires trusting the Physician to do more than just bandage the cuts and bruises made by the glass door. He is able to remove the glass door altogether if I'm willing to trust Him.
